Laura Cervera-Carles is a postdoctoral researcher specialized in neuroscience. Her research focuses on extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their subtypes, as well as on RNA- and protein-based biomarkers in different neurodegenerative diseases.
She obtained her B.Sc. in Biology in 2012 from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and her M.Sc. in Neuroscience in 2013 from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). She completed her PhD in Neurosciences (UAB, 2019) at the Memory Unit of IR-Sant Pau, focused on the genetic and epigenetic architecture of neurodegenerative diseases, including mitochondrial DNA and non-coding RNAs as potential biomarkers.
Between 2020 and 2022, she carried out her postdoctoral research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York), where she studied the role of autophagy in Parkinson’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. She then joined the Universitat de Barcelona (2022–2025) as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) postdoctoral researcher to develop a project on small RNA dynamics and pathogenic mechanisms in Huntington’s disease.
Since November 2025, she has been part of the Memory Unit as a postdoctoral researcher, where she continues her work on biomarkers and molecular mechanisms in dementias.
