Aleyda Benitez

Aleyda BenítezDr. Aleyda Benítez studied Biology at the Universidad de Oriente (Cuba) from 2010-2014. In 2014, she obtained a research initiation grant from CIBER. The work was developed at the research group led by Dr. Montserrat Baiget, in the field of biomedical research, in the thematic area of Rare Diseases. Subsequently, she completed the Master’s degree in Biomedicine (2015-2016) at the University of Barcelona, developing research in the Lipids and Cardiovascular Pathology group of the IIBB-CSIC-IIB Sant Pau led by Dr. Vicenta Llorente Cortés. In the same group, she completed her PhD in Biomedicine (2017-2022) from the University of Barcelona thanks to a PFIS contract from ISCIII. During her PhD studies, she made stays in Bordeaux (2017), Hamburg (2019), and Los Angeles (2022) with the aim of carrying out specialization courses. In 2022, she made a predoctoral stay in New York in the group of Dr. Edward A. Fisher, thanks to a mobility grant from ISCIII (M-AES). In October 2024, Aleyda joined the Memory Unit of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau as a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellow.
