Observational studies

NGF and inflammation in Alzheimer’s disease in Down syndrome

+

Objective

To understand how certain processes in the body, such as inflammation and neuronal function, may influence the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Who can participate?

Adults with Down syndrome, with or without cognitive impairment.

What does it involve?

  • Neurological and neuropsychological assessments
  • Blood and cerebrospinal fluid tests (lumbar puncture)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging
  • Annual follow-up over several years

Sleep, temperature and risk of Alzheimer’s disease

+

Objective

To analyse whether sleep disorders and changes in body temperature can predict the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Who can participate?

Adults with Down syndrome, with or without symptoms, approximately between 30 and 60 years of age.

What does it involve?

  • Neurological and neuropsychological assessments
  • Sleep study (polysomnography)
  • Body temperature measurement
  • Brain imaging tests (MRI and PET)
  • Long-term follow-up

Tau PET (18F-PI-2620)

+

Objective

To evaluate an imaging marker (PET) to detect the tau protein in the brain, which is associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Who can participate?

Adults with Down syndrome and healthy volunteers.

What does it involve?

  • Brain PET scan
  • Magnetic resonance imaging
  • Clinical follow-up

ARC-DS (digital cognitive assessment)

+

Objective

To improve the detection of cognitive changes through digital tools used at home.

Who can participate?

People with Down syndrome who are able to use a mobile device (with support if necessary).

What does it involve?

  • Completion of short cognitive tests in an app
  • Periodic assessments
  • Combination with blood tests
