Dr. Sònia Sirisi Dolcet obtained her Biochemistry degree by the Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona. In 2014, she obtained the PhD in Biomedicine by the University of Barcelona. She developed her thesis under the supervision of Dr. Raúl Estévez Povedano (UB) and Dr. Virginia Nunes (IDIBELL). During her PhD, Sònia studied the molecular basis of Megalencephalic Leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts (MLC). Afterwards, in 2015, she obtained a postdoctoral fellowship from the European Leukodystrophy Association (ELA) for the molecular study of the VRAC channel in MLC disease.
In 2017, she joined the Sant Pau Memory Unit to carry out a project focused on the study of the C9ORF72 gene, involving frontotemporal dementia, in synapses.
